the Battle of Helm’s Deep…in candy!

Every now and again a fan goes deep into the psychadelic technicolour orgasm which is fandom and busts out something completely insane and completely frickin’ cool. This, ladies, gentlemen, elves, dwarves, dryads, naiiads, and my fellow Narnians, is that thing.

The Battle of Helm’s Deep, in candy.

Helm's Deep, in candy

The whole thing was constructed out of cardboard, glue, icing and… well, candy. It clocked in at about 7 feet long by 3 feet deep by 2 feet tall. We used over 500 Gummy Bears as orcs and Uruk-Hai. The Elves, Dwarves and Men were represented by sour patch kids. Most of these were of course corpses.

Head on over to the site to see the whole gallery of pictures and details of the amazing Tootsie Roll Pop catapults.

    Awesome & great fun

For the Rohirrim amongst us, the word is :

Always remember …. Helm’s Deep never fell to an Enemy, while there were Men (& Eagles) prepared to defend it …..

Exactly. But I wonder what humidity and time would do, in this specific case.

BTW I have linked to your site . In spite of my rservations about your political views and much else it is a mighty work and I intend to do a short review. I am only a pipsqueak blogger but I thought it might give locals an idea of the world of possibilities. I am not linking to any more sites just a few I like that I will encourage others to look at from time to time .

I would definitely eat it halfway through building. Looks delicious. And thoroughly awesome.

I’m sorry but when I see such a thing of beauty I want to destroy it. It’s just my nature.

I once led a course in transformative creativity, and part of the exercise was for the group to build something using popsicle sticks. At the end one of them asked what they were supposed to do with it, and I said, “It’s your thing, do what you like.” She got an evil grin and said “I want to SMASH IT!” and so she did, with great glee. It was the best part of the class; we had popsicle sticks caught on the ceiling fixtures for weeks after that.

It is awesome. He got featured on Fark, BoingBoing, and TheOneRing.net, the major LOTR fansite, all in one day (and all, ahem, thanks to moi). He says his hits look like the tower of Barad Dur! Would love to see that graph!

I’d have to eat a few elves. They’re SO superior….

Have you seen the comments on the site? There are Ubernerds out there berating him because there were no elf armies in the “true” account of the battle. Then they tell him to get a life…as if they’d recognize one if it came down to their mom’s basement and bit them.
