anti-smoking ad in Vancouver

I’m sorry I missed this: no idea when it was here, but I’m down that way all the time. Very odd I didn’t see it and annoy my smoking and in-denial friends about it. This is from Creative Advertisements Around the World Hemmy.net (turns out eglobe1.com took it from the original author {now linked here, see comments} and didn’t credit it), via Fark.

Nonsmoking ad

This is an advertisement found in Vancouver during the National Non-Smoking Week. The car was placed at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the message reads

‘Death from car accidents: 370
Death from smoking-related causes: 6,027
Quit now before it kills you.’

The one thing that is not devulged in their caption is:

DEATH by MOTOR vehicle EMMISSIONS = millions perhaps?

Not yet. Wait for global warming.

Smoking is a terrible killer, and the worst thing is that it’s voluntary. In the UK the figures are different; they have higher smoking-related mortality, but because there they don’t count heart attacks that result from lung cancer as smoking-related, but as coronary deaths, they underreport. This gives the Brits an entirely unjustified sense of complacency. I just hope my friends don’t learn the hard way. I’ve seen people close to me die of lung cancer, and it’s a long, horrible process.

Will do. I’ve checked his site (to compare post times, because I’m way cynical about such claims) and his disclaimer says:
Disclaimer: All images here has been gathered from the email and community group.
Many of them have been sent to me by anonymous and there is no way to validate where they obtained from.
If you have an issue about certain images, please do let me know.

In other words, yes, he’s taken your stuff. You may want to drop him a line. I’ll change the URL and leave a note so that the readers know; have you told Fark, though?

Great, thanks for letting me know. I hope you get a lot of hits. People will be keeping an eye on eglobe1 from now on.

As you can see, I’m not shy about posting other people’s stuff, but I generally don’t steal the whole thing and I ALWAYS give credit where due.
